Kitesurfing is rapidly becoming a great new sport for people who like to surf, windsurf, or just try something new. However, it’s a good idea to learn the basics first, since you could get injured if you don’t know what you’re doing – just like with any sport. The best way to learn the basics is to get control of a smaller training kite first. You would do this over land, and the training kite isn’t strong enough to pull you around too much. Once you get completely comfortable with the training kite, you can move on to the full-sized kite and start learning with it on land.
The full-sized kite can drag you around a little bit, though, so you’ll want to be prepared for that and completely comfortable with the training kite first. Only when the full-sized kite has been mastered on land should you consider moving out to the water and the surfboard. Expect to fall a lot at first, dunk the kite, and have other problems, but you’ll soon be getting the hang of what you’re doing and need to do in order to succeed. If you stick with it you can learn to do jumps and other tricks, and you can really use the air currents to your advantage and look like a pro. It takes time and patience, but it’s well worth the effort.
